Sega America has released a mysterious teaser trailer that some are saying hints at a possible re-release of the Mega Drive classic, Castle of Illusion, which starred Disney titan, Mickey Mouse.
Released in 1990 on the Mega Drive (Genesis), and in 1991 on the Game Gear, Castle of Illusion was a traditional 2D platformer that’s considered to be one of the best examples of the genre. An obvious clone of Mario, it was a well-designed and presented title, and one that could return very soon…
Below you’ll see the teaser trailer released by Sega, which depicts a spooky castle, a sinister queen-like figure that looks very much like one of Disney’s most memorable evil doers, Maleficent, and an apple, which served as projectiles in the original game.
The only text in the teaser is “Summer 2013”, and a copyright referencing the years 1990 and 2013, another hint that it’s Castle of Illusion.
The teaser follows an earlier leak of supposed promotional art for a Castle of Illusion re-release on XBLA, along with a listing on the Brazilian ratings board for the game on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Vita. This all seems to point to Mickey’s imminent return to the platforming world.
